British Tourists Getting More for their Money in North Cyprus

There was a mini-property boom in south Cyprus last year ahead of the country adopting the euro as its currency in January 2008 – buyers were well aware that the price of property would rise once the euro was in place. Well, not only did the prices in south Cyprus rise under the veil of the euro’s adoption, but the euro has since risen in value in relation to the pound and so British tourists are finding they are getting more for their money in North Cyprus!

In Northern Cyprus the currency for purchasing everything apart from real estate is the Turkish lira which has fared much better against the pound compared to the euro. And this summer those who are heading for Cyprus and hoping to enjoy an affordable holiday in the sun away from Britain and Europe’s credit crunch situation should ensure they are holidaying on the right side (i.e., the North side) of the Green Line!

Northern Cyprus has always been considered an affordable holiday destination – the cost of everything from car hire to a meal out is far more affordable than the prices in the tourism resorts in southern Cyprus such as Paphos, Latsi, Ayia Napa and Larnaca for example. But now that south Cyprus has adopted the euro as its currency not only has everything risen in price, but the value of the pound in relation to the euro has fallen meaning it takes more pounds to buy euros than it did eighteen months ago for example.

This fact is having a very real impact on people’s pockets. This year euro priced holiday hotpots from Spain to Cyprus and from France to Portugal are out of favour with the British holidaymaker in search of a bargain in light of the fact that the British economy is suffering from stagflation. With house prices stagnating, wages stagnating and yet the cost of living surging and inflation rising and rising in Great Britain, us Brits need to go on holiday somewhere where we will be valued and where our money will not be fleeced from us or where it will buy very little.

Northern Cyprus is the perfect haven for Brits wanting a destination in the summer sunshine, where they will be assured of a warm welcome and where they can rest assured their money will go a long way. Long famous for its property market that is on a par with, but a fraction of the price of the one in south Cyprus, Northern Cyprus is now the best side of the island for those who want to get the best from Cyprus at a price that it right too!
