Businesses for Sale in Northern Cyprus

An increasingly large number of people moving to Northern Cyprus are a million miles away from their retirement years and they are looking for a business opportunity or a job so that they can live and work in the TRNC.

Established businesses for sale in Northern Cyprus occasionally come up for sale but it can be difficult for anyone not on the ground to hear about the opportunities and put in an offer. So how can a newly arrived expatriate or a soon to be TRNC resident find a suitable business or employment opportunity?

As I write this (January 2006) two very well known businesses are up for sale in North Cyprus and one has just exchanged hands. But if I didn’t know the people involved in the ventures or didn’t have my ear to the ground I wouldn’t have known that they were up for sale. (Just out of interest the two currently available are Rafters (definite) and Le Jardin (allegedly) and the NightJar has just been sold.) Well, the fact of the matter is it is nigh on impossible to find out about the business environment if you aren’t based in TRNC and out and about meeting people and gossiping!

It’s the same with job openings here. While some are advertised in the Cyprus Today or Cyprus Times newspapers and a very limited few can be found online, the vast majority of positions are filled by people who just happen to have overheard someone mention the vacancy in the queue at the bank or at the Courtyard over a curry.

Because this tricky situation is restricting the numbers of young people who commit to moving to live in Northern Cyprus full time, a well known local resident has established a brand new company which will identify businesses that are available for sale and then market them more widely via the internet and traditional paper advertising - and soon anyone interested in finding out about which bars, restaurants or tourist related businesses are up for sale for example can not only identify a suitable opportunity, they can enter into negotiations without actually having to travel to Northern Cyprus if they so choose.
